Join our dedicated family of volunteers at Eden Mill. Volunteers serve in many capacities and come from a variety of backgrounds and interests. All contributions of time, talent and energy are welcome!

Adults

Do you have a passion for paddling? Would you enjoy working with children and families? Do you have a green thumb? Is office work up your alley? Or are you a fun-loving, easy going type of person who loves the energy of a big event? We have opportunities for you! Nature Center Greeter

Host the nature center on select Sunday afternoons.

Bluebird

Help maintain and monitor some of the bluebird boxes in the park!

Canoe

Learn to lead or assist with our summer canoe trips.

Fundraising

Organize and set-up fundraising events.

Program Assistant

Assist with facilitating programs as needed.

Grist Mill

Learn the history of the mill and machinery. Help to preserve the historic nature of the museum.

Art Show

Help coordinate our annual Art Show of artwork created by the Eden Mill volunteers of all ages.

Garden

Help with gardening projects, programs, and gardening maintenance.

Trails

Meet once a month from spring to fall and spend a few hours maintaining the trails’ beauty.

Volunteer

Assist with volunteer record keeping and communication about updates, meetings, etc.

Junior Volunteers

Do you want to get involved in your community and enjoy the great outdoors?

Would you like to learn more about the bluebird life cycle and take responsibility in monitoring a few of our boxes? Or, maybe you like to get your hands dirty and would like to hike the trails and maintain them along the way?

Our garden team is always looking for help with the community garden or on the invasive hill if you want to learn more about gardening and help to raise food for the Mason Dixon Community Center! Fill out a junior volunteer application today to get started!

We welcome groups of volunteers from clubs, organizations, businesses, scouts, churches and more.

Help us keep Eden Mill Park safe and beautiful. Mulching trails, raking leaves, pruning bushes, and pulling weeds all make great group service projects!

There are many volunteer opportunities throughout Eden Mill. Read what some of our past and present volunteers have to say about their experience as a volunteer here.

When I am maintaining trails at Eden Mill, I get to see bald eagles, beavers, and families making happy memories. When I am hosting at the nature center, I am thrilled by the wonder I see on the faces of delighted children as they study native animals up close. And when I host at the grist mill, I get to show visitors how the past is still present at Eden Mill.

It’s a special place where a part of me stays even after I leave.

I’ve volunteered at Eden Mill for long enough that I’ve forgotten exactly when I started. Over that time I’ve taught different stations for the school field trip program; I’ve helped organize the annual Fall Fest and I’ve learned to canoe, taught canoeing to others and helped with the public canoe program. My appreciation and delight in being in the natural world has grown from being around wonderful people who also love nature. Eden Mill in many ways feels like a second home.

I moved here in November of 2010, having retired from teaching high school for 30 years. I loved the area, but I didn’t know anyone or anything about Harford County. I rode around using my car’s GPS so I could find my way home. One day, on a walk, I ran into my neighbor, Marcie. She told me about Eden Mill and said I’d be a perfect fit with them. I attended the January meeting, which was the art show. It was lovely and I was overly impressed with the facilities.

I signed up to volunteer and before long I was a member of the Bluebird Monitoring Team and a regular Facility Host on Sundays. By the time the Field Trip program started up in April, I was hooked. I started with field activities and hikes and worked my way up to Nature Center and Mill tours. Eventually I became the Wetlands Field Trip person. I got to spend my days with kids, which I love. I learned so much about animals, the Mill, plants and just what a wonderful place Eden Mill is. The staff is friendly and supportive and I’m proud to call them friends. There is so much to learn and do at Eden Mill and I no longer drive around aimlessly. So, you see, Eden Mill rescued me and now I feel part of Eden Mill, the community and Maryland. Thank you Eden Mill.

Eden Mill Nature Center, our happy place in Harford County! My husband, myself and 4 grandchildren ages 3 to 9 all volunteer. Each of us have our own favorite thing to do. Some of things we do are trail maintenance, working in the established gardens ( there are 9, which include pollinator, sensory, native plants and vegetable).

There are many Blue Bird houses located through the park. Each one is monitored weekly and final results are reported to Cornell University. Every change of season is an opportunity to volunteer. The time we volunteer is so rewarding and educational. To see the smile on a face when they see a baby bird, monarch caterpillars on the milkweed or frogs in the wetlands makes my heart sing.

When you are a volunteer, you set your own pace as to how many hours you want to do. I love this because when you volunteer at Eden Mill you get to be a part of community of who enjoys Nature and wants to see it preserved for future generations.
